Greetings, I have a piece of hardware that plugs into a USB port. Windows 7 automatically recognizes it as 'Unknown Device' but installs the drivers for it as if it wasn't an unknown device. There are no yellow marks next to it in Device Manager. I have tried uninstalling the driver and installing the supplied driver but Windows says that it already has the best driver installed. I have tried removing the device completely, telling windows not to install any drivers automatically but it still seems to do that. The device hardware ID is USB UNKNOWN.

This hardware works fine on a laptop that runs Vista so I do not think it is the cable or the drivers. The hardware works fine on another computer running Windows 7 Pro 64bit. The hardware vendor says they have plenty of support with people using Windows 7 Pro 64bit and the hardware works without a problem and cannot seem to figure out why windows wants to install a driver for the hardware where it doesn't know what the hardware is. I am happy to provide more details so please ask away! Hi, The issue you are experiencing might be due to an outdated or incompatible device driver.
