Hi All, Thanks for looking in. My Laptop Toshiba 655 Satellite, came up with an HDD error Via Win7. Toshiba Part # mk3265gsxn 1. To replace, how or what can I replace with? This is a 5600rpm thought to go 7200 or SSD if I can find the price right.

How to know which is compatible. Is it any Notebook ssd or Hdd to plug in? This came from BigBox with a front loaded O.S (only recovery discs) When replacing this Drive will I need a new O.S? I just built a desktop and own a builders win7 yet it is 64.

Will this laptop handle a 64 bit? Or will have to add ram too? Comparative economics here, 7200 hdd and some Ram v.s. Paying for a 7200 hdd and the o.s. Is it a pretty easy R and R for this drive?

I have built a desktop any tips, tricks or torture I am about to embark on? Thanks for any detailed responses and links if you find em Regards, NC. You can just download a full Windows 7 install disk image for Home Premium x64 (which is what your link says is the original OS) from and do the re-activation with the key off your laptop sticker. You can replace it with any SATA notebook drive as long as it is the correct height. They come in 9.5mm and 7mm heights, although you can use a spacer with a thin drive in a larger space. I would guess that your drive is a 9.5mm but I would take a look or find a spec sheet to be sure. It's been a couple of years, but I don't recall that the last Satellite HDD swap was difficult, just take your time and be gentle with the connectors.

Also unplug it and remove the battery before doing the swap. IIRC for Satellites, the HDD is in a compartment on the bottom near the battery.
